Trade unions and professionals gathered to defeat anti-worker agenda

Together with 20 trade unions and professional associations, the Workers’ Struggle Centre organized a protest march on 28th March in Colombo demanding the government reverse anti- workers agenda.

Low salaries, unsecured working conditions, instability of jobs, oppressive laws, lack of social security and pension are few of the working class’s main issues. The joint movement is in the process of taking on collective measures to find solutions for the problems of the working class on the following slogans;

  • Increase the wages of state workers by Rs. 10,000
  • Increase the minimum wage of the private sector up to Rs. 25,000
  • Pay Rs. 1000 daily wage for estate workers and a permanent monthly salary
  • Absorb manpower and contract workers to the permanent cadre
  • Pay Rs. 1500 minimum daily wage for manpower and contract workers
  • Defeat Counter-Terrorism Act
  • Stop selling public assets to multinational companies
  • Protect pension rights
  • Hands Off the EPF-ETF funds
  • Fight together and remove grades, trade unions and professional differences
  • Abolish Singapore agreement
  • Protect foreign employees’ rights
